4 demonstrators killed in police firing in Birgunj, Bara

BIRGUNJ: Three demonstrators were killed in police firing in various places of Birgunj on the 17th day of the indefinite Tarai Madhes strike called by the United Democratic Madhesi Front today.
The deceased have been identified as Darma Raj Singh (30) of Bhawanipur, Maniyari in Parsa, Bhola Sah (24) of Nagawa and Dinanath Sah (27) of Bahuari Nautan.
Singh received bullet on his head when police opened fire on protesters during a clash in Radhemai of Birgunj this afternoon.
Bhola and Dinanath were killed after police opened fire on agitators when the latter tried to capture a local police beat.
Bhola died on the spot while Dinanath died in course of treatment at the National Medical College.
Meanwhile, Hifajat Miya died in police firing when the agitators tried to cross the prohibited area at Bharat Chowk of Kalaiya , the district headquarters of Bara today.
The number of protesters injured in police firing has reached two dozen in Bara and Parsa so far.
Earlier on Monday, Dilip Chaurasiya (28), a Federal Socialist Party-Nepal cadre from Parsa’s Maniyari VDC, was shot in the chest during a clash that broke out near Parsa DDC.
Chaurasiya was rushed to the Narayani Sub-regional Hospital, where he succumbed to injuries.
The UDMF has enforced indefinite strike to protest the draft constitution and seven-province federal model proposed by the three major parties.
