Protesters defy curfew in Birgunj

BIRGUNJ: As the supporters of various Madhesi parties started taking to the streets defying curfew, security personnel have used force at various places in Birgunj to disperse them on Tuesday morning.
At least two persons, identified as Dipesh Patel (17) and Sandip Patel, were injured when the police personnel opened fired to contain a mob at local Gandak bazaar. Both of the injured have been rushed to Birgunj Narayani Sub-Regional Hospital for treatment.
Due to the growing tension, the local administration had declared an indefinite curfew starting 4:00 pm yesterday afternoon. A protester was killed in police firing yesterday.
Notwithstanding curfew, protesters have gathered at Gandak, Murli and Laxmanwa.
They have been burned tyres and obstructed the road putting boulders at many places.
A group hurled stones at at a police vehicle at Murli.
The Madhesi parties have imposed an indefinite shutdown since August 15, protesting the number and boundaries of purported federal units.
