Britain hails Nepal Constitution as ‘milestone’

KATHMANDU: The United Kingdom hailed the Constitution of Nepal as a milestone.
In a meeting with visiting Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Kamal Thapa in London on Wednesday, the British Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs Philip Hammond said it was a great achievement for the nation to promulgate the Constitution through the people-elected Constituent Assembly.
Hammond tweeted after the meeting that they also discussed prosperity and development in Nepal.
Thapa said he discussed with the British counterpart various bilateral issues including the case of Colonel Kumar Lama and rights and welfare of British Gurkhas.
The DPM had also met Minister of State at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office Hugo Swire.
They had discussed contributions of Gurkhas, according to Swire’s tweets.





Thapa is in Britain currently to commemorate the 200th anniversary of beginning of diplomatic ties between the two nations.
